Mango Street - Day and Night with Happy and Sad

The book I talk about today is named The House on Mango Street. This book wrote by Sandra Cisneros. This book published in 1984 and totally has 110 pages which includes 44 stories. The House on Mango Street is talks about a girl moved to a little house on Mango street. Sandra used a kid’s words to tell stories about her family, her friends, her neighborhood, and her daily life. 

It is a five stars book. Even the writer used a kid’s words, readers can understand this book clearly. Second, this book is full of interesting ideas. Furthermore, the language in this book is very beautiful. It’s short but powerful, and it can touch your heart. 

The 44 stories can read separately. The story I like most in this book are Darius & the Clouds. Sandra said Darius was not a smart boy. However, one day he said something really good. Darius said the cloud in the sky was god. I thought it was interesting. The story touched me most is the last one: Mango Says Goodbye Sometimes. In that story, Sandra said the house belonged to her, but she was not belong to that place. She need to leave that place one day, and own her new house. However, she wanted to leave was because she wanted to come back, for people who can not leave Mango Street forever.

Ice Cream

Cold, sweet in a warm-color cone

It’s like a triangle with colorful flowers inside

You can choose the tastes you like

Milk, green tea, chocolate, with nut

When you feel sad, it can makes you happy

All kids likes ice cream

Adults too, especially when they feel they become young

You will miss it in winter

It’s nice to have one in a hot summer afternoon

Zhong Dumplings

Three o’clock

The night continued 

and the world still in dream

Chicken and beef were in water

With Onion, ginger and garlic

When the soup prepared 

The first sunshine came to the world

People like dumplings for breakfast and lunch

With fresh Chili pepper and black pepper

That’s my hometown Chongqing

We like to change the color of soup redder

Change our lips in red also

And say “delicious” with water

Especially in summer

And we like the Zhong Dumplings 

The Polar bear twins

It was a very beautiful spring day. 

Poets wrote poems for the new leaves came out in the top of the trees; composers wrote some music for the water flowed under the ice; photographers took pictures for swallows came back to their home to feed their little kids. 

In that wonderful day, the polar bear twins came to this world. 

Few months later, the two little polar bears followed their mother left their home to get some food. 

“Mom, what we are going to eat?” the elder one of the twins asked mother polar bear.

“We are going to get some fish for lunch. You need to learn how to get fish, my sweets.” answered the mother polar bear.

There was a river near the polar bear family’s home. As the weather came warmer and warmer, a lot of fish came back to this river, and wanted to reproduce. 

“This is the best time to eat fish.” the mother polar bear told her children.

However, the two little polar bears did not pay attention to their mother. This was the first time the twins saw the river. They were very exciting that they could find other three polar bears under the water. The other three polar bears were standing among the shoal of fish. 

“Mom, look! There are three bears under the water, and they followed what we did.” the younger one of the twins yelled.

“Those are your inverted images. Of course they are following you.” answered by mother polar bear.

“Our inverted images are in a different world. Let’s jump into the water and play with them.” the two kinds bear said and jumped into the water. 

Half an hour later, the mother polar bear asked her children to get out of water and have lunch.  

How wonderful day it is! The two baby polar bears thought on their way home.
